SUMMARY:Environmental Econometrics with Time Series and Spatial Data
DESCRIPTION:A lot of data in environmental economics comes as time series\, so it is observed at recurring points in time\, or it is spatially dependent\, which means that outcomes are influenced by neighboring units. Mastering the appropriate quantitative methods is vital for understanding complex environmental and climate-economic interactions. The Advanced Training Module is offered as part of the ECO-N qualification programme for PhD researchers and early-career scientists. \nParticipants will learn about the econometric methods for dealing with time series and spatial data\, applied to real-world environmental settings. The module will combine theoretical concepts with hands-on applications implemented in Stata\, including room for discussion and practical problem-solving. \nSpeakers: Prof. Ph.D. Melanie Krause\, Prof. Dr. Bernd Süßmuth \nMonday\, 29.09.2025:\n09:00-10:30: Lecture on “Introducing dynamics and filters” (Bernd Süssmuth)\n11:00-12:30:  Lecture on “Multivariate time-series models” (Bernd Süssmuth)\n14:00-16:00: Practical exercises (with discussion of solutions at the end) \nTuesday\, 30.09.2025:\n09:00-10:30: Lecture on “Time-varying models and forecasting” (Bernd Süssmuth)\n11:00-12:30:  Lecture on “Introduction to working with geo-spatial data with QGIS” (Melanie Krause)\n14:00-16:00: Practical exercises (with discussion of solutions at the end) \nWednesday\, 01.10.2025:\n09:00-10:30: Lecture on “Measuring Spatial Autocorrelation” (Melanie Krause)\n11:00-12:30:  Lecture on “Spatial Regression Models” (Melanie Krause)\n14:00-16:00: Practical exercises (with discussion of solutions at the end) \nMain text book: Baum\, C. and S. Hurn (2021)\, “Environmental Econometrics using Stata”\, StataPress. Main software: Stata\, partially QGIS \nRegistration\nThe course is open to interested doctoral researchers and early-career scientists (limited number of participants) and free of charge. The registration deadline is 4 September 2025. External participants need to cover any travel expenses themselves. To register\, please send an e-mail to m.schnabel@wifa.uni-leipzig.de. \nSee more information here.
