On 28 and 29 October 2025, we’ll host a Science Policy Workshop on Climate & Energy Policy with Patrick Graichen, former State Secretary for Energy and Climate at the German Ministry for Economics and Climate Action. You can find the programme here. To register for the workshop, please send an email to: m.schnabel@wifa.uni-leipzig.de.
This workshop will cover the climate and energy policy debate from a practitioner’s perspective: What are the technological drivers on the road to climate neutrality – and is there still hope? Is the German Energiewende a success story or an economic disaster? What are the do’s and don’ts of energy and climate policy and how are laws actually coming to light? What is the role of economic instruments in energy and climate policy mix and if one wanted to influence climate policy as a researcher: what would be the right strategy?
Part of the workshop will be a public talk by Patrick Graichen on the “State of the Energy Transition 2025: Are we at a dead end – or at the dawn of a new era? A critical assessment of the energy transition in Germany, Europe and globally, looking at the major challenges of the coming years and how they can be overcome” at our regular lecture series slot on Wednesday, 29 October 2025, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM. This time, the lecture will take place in person in Lecture Hall 8, Lecture Hall Building, Universitätsstraße 3.
